This term (term 4) we are learning about the.... Human Body! It has been really interesting and later on in the term we get to go to the Human body enclosure at the Melbourne Museum to learn more!
This term has been so busy! We've had camp at Forest Lodge Farm, had the Multicultural Football Program, visited the MCG and more!!
MCG VISIT
WOW! I never realised that the MCG was so huge!!! On Wednesday the 19th of August the senior school got to have a tour of the MCG! Our tour guide's name was Ken and he was very nice. Ken told us that he used to play for Geelong Football Club a very long time ago, anyway back to the tour. Whilst we were wondering around on our tour we got to go the the go the bottom stand of the 'G and onto the field but we were only allowed on the turf because there was a little chain thing that was seperating us from the actual ground. Ken said that we could put our foot on the ground to say that we walked on the field. Some people took some grass as a souviner. After that we got to see some other parts of the MCG which were very interesting some were the change rooms and where the cricketers practise. I like the balcany that we got to go on because it has a very good view of the city and you can see heaps of the sports stadiums as Ken was saying. We also got to go to the NAtion SPorts Meseum which is inside the MCG. We got learn about all different sports but I manely foucused on footy. Miss Powell got some people to watch the James Herd holagram, it was really interesting and good. We then got to go to Game On. I was very fun, I did some archery on the archery machine, handballing the footy activity, cycling on the cycling race machine, soccer, cricket and more! I also mersured myself up against the height of some famous athletes and I was alot shorter than Lauren Jackosn because she is 1.96m tall! The visit to the MCG was very exciting, I enjoyed it very much!
We have finished doing chemical energy, I think we're now focusing on air energy, so we got to make whistle things out of straws but they didn't really work!
This term (term 3) we have been learning about Energy, at the moment we are focusing on Chemical Energy (Chemistry). So far we have done some experiments, the first one we did was called Glue Goop. I worked with Amy, Amber and Omar because they sit on my table. To make it we had to use water, PVA wood glue, and Borax powder. We had two cups to make both mixtures; the first mixture had half a cup of water and a quarter of a cup of glue, we mixed it together. The second mixture had Borax power and water. After both mixtures were done we had to pour some of the Borax mixture into the glue mixture and mix them both with an icy pole stick. As we mixed we could see that they were making this slimy white goop it looked really cool! We divided up the goop into four and then all fiddled around with our pieces. We have also doing other experiences and I looked forward to doing more!
WATER This term (term 2) we are learning about water. So far we have learnt a bit more about the water cycle, general water facts etc. Last week a guy named Ben came to our school to teach us more about water. Ben taught us about the the water cycle and what stages the water goes through. After Ben had finished his power point about the water cycle he told us we were going to do a little experiment. We got put into groups of around eight and then Ben gave us the materials ( water, around a two letre tub/glass bowl, around four- five plastic wheels each, a little tub/ the bottom half of a plastic cup, masking tape, cling wrap and a small stone. The aim of the expiriment was to get the water from the big into the little tub.
First we put the small tub/ the bottom half of a plastic cup in the middle of the big tub. We then put our plastic wheels in our small tub. After that we poured water in the big tub making sure that we didn't getr any water in the small tub (we had to make sure that the little tub DIDN'T come floating up!). After that we then put some cling wrap over the big tub so there was a bit of cling wrap hanging over the edges, then we put masking tape around the bits of cling wrap over the edge of the tub so no air or water could come out! The next step was to put the stone on the top of the cling wrap above the small tub. When we had done all of that we went outside and put two of the projects out side (the third one stayed in the classroom) one of them was in a shadey spot and my groups expiriment was in the sun. After a couple of days we brang the expiriments inside side to check if the water had filled up the little tubs yet, but we haven't actually opened any of them yet. I'm pretty sure that Ben will be back next week to teach more about water though.
MURRINDINDI VISIT
This term (term 1) we've been learning about Aboriginals, it has been very interesting. A coulple of weeks ago Murrindindi came to the school to talk to us about his culture. Murrindindi told us about his child hood life and how he suffered from racisim. He told us about his first marrige and how he two boys but he and his ex wife divorced. Murrindindi told us about his second marrige and his daughter. After that Murrindindi told us about some of his family history and how he is the head of his tribe. Murrindindi showed us his possum skin coat and played the didgeridoo, It sounded really awesome! Murrindindi told us about this game which is similar to net ball but it is played with a possum skin ball filled with grass and you cant talk other wise you and your team mates go off! (depends on how many words you say. Eg. If you say two words you and two other team mates go off). After play lunch we went out side to throw boomarangs, the first couple of times Murrindindi didn't catch the ones he threw because of the wind but the last couple of throws he caught them. It was my turn to throw a boomarang, I threw my boomarang I didn't do too bad I suppose but other people did better and nearly caught theirs! When we were having lunch Murrindindi was selling boomarangs for $10, I Brought one and the next day I came to the school and nearly caught it! Going back to Friday... I had an awesome day and I would like
INTER SCHOOL SPORTS 2009
It was a awesome day! I was in the mixed volleyball team and we did an great job! Our first match was against St Leoneard's. The first set started off pretty close but then we got right ahead and won the first set. The second set had some great rallies and the first long rally was me mostly me hitting the ball back and forward. We won the first and second set, so that ment we had won the whole match but we still put enough effort in to win the third set.
The second match was against G.W.S. We had some really good serves during the first and second sets, which we won both of them. By the third set everyone was getting a little lazy an stopped trying. Everyone encouraged each other but it was a close set. We still managed to win the third set!!!!
We had an hour break and watched the girls volleyball team play. It was then time to play Good Shepard, everyone was a bit nervous because of their hight. We had some great digs, rallies and serves during the game. We won the first and second set but yet again, by the third set everyone was getting a bit lazy and we lost the third rally. It didn't really matter that we lost the third rally because we had still won the game and had loads of fun!
I'm sure everyone is proud of Brodie for getting nearly all of her serves over the net. Vicky did some awesome digs and Jayce was very good at catching the ball when the opposition team served and starting some great rallies. Nan did a great job as team captain and I hope we do well against St Justin's next term and do well in the finals.
